Where Everybody Knows Your Name

So, being at the alumnae ceremony today, and hearing Kim & Jenna's amazing heartfelt speeches made me recall my alumnae ceremony and what I felt was important to say at that time. The vast majority of it still applies, interesting how most sisters feel the need to get across such similar messages when they go alum. The overall theme is almost always YOU GET OUT OF IT WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT!!!!! I put SOOO much into Delta Phi Epsilon, but what I got back was worth 100xs more than what I put into it. I do not regret, and would not change one minute of my time in Delta Phi Epsilon. I met, and am still meeting, the MOST amazing people!!! I love you guys!!!

My Alum Song: The Cheers Theme

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows your name.

And finally, my alum speech:

To our newest sisters: NOW is the time to join in! If you do not already have a position, run for one in the fall. Decide now what you want to do in 3 years and then pick the route that will get you there! Not everyone wants to be president, which is good because not everyone can be. But everyone should strive to be a leader in this chapter. Even if you are simply leading being our most active sister, people will see that and recognize your commitment to Delta Phi Epsilon.

To our Alpha Pis: I have gotten the opportunity to get to know how amazing you girls are. To those that I see on a regular basis: you are on the right track to becoming amazing leaders for this chapter. To the ones who I wish I saw more of: it is NEVER too late to become active! I’ve seen sisters decide to rededicate themselves to the chapter in the spring, and then in the fall become our chapter president! (Yes I know, I should have been gone a long time ago…)

To my “older” sisters: It’s weird to call you guys older sisters… I’ve seen you move from scared new members who were completely overwhelmed by everything that the chapter is comprised of, to now being the leaders of this chapter that our new classes look up to.

To my alumnae (most of whom here today initiated after me…): Thank you for coming today. All of you are perfect examples that sisterhood truly is for a lifetime, and I cannot wait to grow old with all of you and become those old ladies that come back to alumnae events and talk about how the chapter USED to be when WE were in. Oh wait, we already do that….

To the current leadership team: I could not have handpicked better people’s hands to be leaving the chapter in. Each and every one of you are amazing in your own way, and if you do not allow yourselves to get discouraged, you will do wonders for this chapter and take it to new levels that would wouldn’t have dared dream of when I initiated 5 years ago.

To the coordinators: Look up to these people. Take their knowledge and wisdom and use it. They have been there before; they know the ropes, use them! And like I told the leadership team, do not get discouraged! As I’ve always said, if only 5 people show up to your event that is all the more reason to enjoy yourself, because you are with the 5 most dedicated sisters in this chapter!

To everyone else: You are the fabric that holds this chapter together! Never think that just because you do not hold a position that you are not important, because it is not true, you are the MOST important! If it were not for the general members of this chapter, who would the coordinators be planning the events for? It’s YOU that they go through all of the trouble for! Please take advantage of their hard work and show them that it was worth it!

There is a reason why I have our motto tattooed onto my body, I believe that our motto is the essence of Delta Phi Epsilon and should be everything that our chapter, as well as us individually strive for in our daily lives. Esse Quam Videri: To BE rather than to SEEM to be. Think about it…

A wise sister once told me that it is only possible to get out of Delta Phi Epsilon what you put into it. You cannot expect to fully comprehend the wonderfulness that is this chapter if you do not come around to see it. In my experience, everything that you put into this chapter will come back to you 10 fold, I promise.

Pink - Glitter In The Air

Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands?
Closed your eyes and trusted, just trusted
Have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air?
Have you ever looked fear in the face
And said I just don’t care?
It’s only half past the point of no return
The tip of the iceberg
The sun before the burn
The thunder before lightning
The breathe before the phrase
Have you ever felt this way?
Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?
You’re whole life waiting on the ring to prove you’re not alone
Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry?
Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside?
It’s only half past the point of oblivion
The hourglass on the table
The walk before the run
The breathe before the kiss
And the fear before the phrase
Have you ever felt this way?
La La La La La La La Laa
There you are, sitting in the garden
Clutching my coffee,
Calling me sugar
You called me sugar
Have you ever wished for an endless night?
Lasooed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight
Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight?
Tonight
